Vanity Fair editors, in what probably started as a doodling exercise over lunch, have posted an edited version of Sarah Palin’s first resignation speech to the Web.  Hard to tell whether Palin in Kodachrome looks worse in black and white.

Recently I edited a nonfiction book written by a small army of academics.  Two things struck me the first time I read the manuscript:  First, the book was set in sans serif type, which seemed odd from the standpoint of making it readable.  Second, among the many academic papers and government reports cited, one author in particular  — Gol — seemed to be especially prolific and influential.  I wasn’t sure whether the name was pronounced “gawl” or “goal,” but I was  really impressed with Gol’s output until I came to the bibliography, which revealed “Gol” to be the Government of India.
